The Palo Del Amo Woods HOA would like to update residents on the ongoing street sweeping signage issues affecting our community and the steps being taken to address them.

Background: How We Got Here

Several years ago, our community participated in the County’s process allowing residents to vote on whether street sweeping signs should be installed on their streets. Only streets that voted in favor were supposed to receive signage.

Unfortunately, when the signs were first installed, all streets were assigned the same sweeping day and time. This immediately created parking challenges, as residents were forced to move vehicles to neighboring streets that had not opted into street sweeping. In some cases, residents had no legal parking options available.

The HOA raised these concerns with Public Works and requested a split sweeping schedule to reduce congestion. At that time, we were told that regulations had changed and that all streets were required to have signs. However, nearby communities have since declined signage and do not currently have street sweeping signs, leading to understandable confusion and concern among our residents.

Issues With the Installed Signage

After installation, the street sweeping signs remained covered for several months. Once they were uncovered, residents quickly noticed several problems, particularly on cul-de-sacs.

Reported issues include:

  • Poles displaying two street sweeping signs with arrows pointing in different or incorrect directions

  • Signs stating “entire block,” which many residents find unclear and misleading

  • Inconsistent sweeping days posted on the same side of the street

One example occurred on the 900 block of 245th Street, where most signs correctly showed sweeping on Wednesdays from 7:00–9:00 a.m. on the south side, but one pole near the end of the cul-de-sac incorrectly listed Thursday instead.

The HOA has repeatedly reported these issues to Public Works and raised them at community meetings. Unfortunately, many of these errors remained uncorrected for months, during which residents continued to receive citations.

Recent Sign Activity

On Thursday, January 23, 2026, Public Works staff covered all street sweeping signs on the 900 block of 245th Street without prior notice. Later that morning, a worker began changing signs on that street and others. Residents who spoke with him were told his work order instructed him to switch sweeping days for both sides of the street.

The HOA immediately raised concerns, as the long-established sweeping schedule had already been followed by residents. Changing the sweeping days without notice would have resulted in widespread ticketing. After the issue was escalated, the worker contacted his supervisor and was instructed to stop work and leave the signs covered until the matter could be reviewed.

HOA Actions and Next Steps

The HOA continues to work with Public Works to resolve these issues and has formally requested the following actions:

  • Reversal of citations issued due to confusing, incorrect, or contradictory signage

  • Removal of signs using the wording “entire block”

  • Replacement of poles displaying multiple street sweeping signs with a single, clear sign

  • Restoration of original sweeping days and times where changes were attempted without notice

  • Keeping all recently covered signs covered until corrections are completed and residents are properly notified
